Chalayan

Hussein Chalayan founded his eponymous fashion house in 1994. The label was originally named Hussein Chalayan, but the title was changed to just Chalayan in 2010. The brand is known for their experimental and avant-garde designs, with Chalayan himself known as ‘fashion’s big thinker’. He continuously pushes the boundaries of fashion, blurring the lines between art, science and design to produce relentlessly innovative creations.

Through this fusion of science, art and fashion, Chalayan has created futuristic and fantastical collections for the runway. Famous designs by the label have included a hooped skirt which transforms into a coffee table, an LED-lit dress and colour changing materials. This forward-thinking approach is carried through to ready-to-wear designs, seen in slinky fabrics with cut-out details, sculptural tailoring and edgy digital prints. Architectural details are added for a contemporary feel, and fabrics are draped to create unique origami effects. Each design is fresh and unexpected, created with a visionary approach.

Chalayan designs can be purchased through the brand’s boutique in London.
