Alter és Kiss was a Central European fashion house catering to high society. Founded in 1829, Alter és Kiss designed clothes for the most noble families of the time, including the Habsburg Royal Family. The founder, Antal Alter started the company by selling fabrics such as silk and velvet. When his nephew, Eduard Alter and his wife Kornél Kiss took over the business in 1858, they expanded the store and in 1866 set up a second store across the street. Alter és Kiss also began to make clothing for men, and by the mid 19th century, they were exceptionally well known throughout Europe. It is suggested that the two Alter és Kiss stores stayed open until 1888.
In 2009, Alter és Kiss was revived by Gabor Fabricius and Mei Mei Ding, with support from the Alter family.
