Founded in 2013, Coperni was established by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant. The Parisian womenswear brand produces ready-to-wear and accessories which work from a modern and sophisticated aesthetic. The brand name, Coperni, comes from the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, whose research into Heliocentrism paved the way for the understanding that all planets turn around the Sun instead of the Sun turning round the Earth. Copernicus is inspirational to the founders, motivating them to pursue modernism and technology and look into the infinite possibilities to fashion, which in turn, inspires their designs.
Coperni collections are forward-thinking yet minimalist. Focusing on exquisite cuts and tailoring, the drama of Coperni lay in their perfect silhouettes and structures. Asymmetric shapes are seen throughout designs for uncomplicated yet powerful outcomes. Simplistic designs are subversive through cut-out detailing, sharp cuts and unique textures. The Swipe bag is a cult favourite, featuring a clean, curved shape inspired by the ‘swipe to unlock’ feature on iPhones. Heart shaped bags are playful and make a statement, while one-shoulder shirts combine feminine and masculine elements for a high-fashion appeal from a wardrobe staple. Through mini dresses and tailored jackets to comfortable, wide-leg trousers and oversize tees, Coperni holds a laid-back aesthetic. Their designs are unconventional but wearable, adding interest to daily uniforms. The perfect mix of daring and refined design is incorporated into Coperni collections, meaning that each piece pushes the boundaries enough to be exciting, while still desirable to many.
With an online store available through Coperni’s website, the label’s designs are also accessible from other online retailers such as Net-a-Porter, My Theresa and Farfetch.
