Givenchy is a world-renowned and celebrated luxury fashion and perfume house. Hubert de Givenchy founded the brand in 1952, creating floaty skirts and blouses. Givenchy designed the first shirt dress in 1954, which later became the sack dress, and was the first high-fashion brand to produce ready-to-wear collections. Having such great success in Haute Couture and womenswear, the House launched a menswear line in 1969, named ‘Gentlemen Givenchy’. Audrey Hepburn is one of many famous clientele. Her Breakfast at Tiffany’s role famously saw her in Givenchy’s ‘little black dress’.
Today, the brand is owned by LVMH, and Matthew Williams became Creative Director in 2020. Givenchy encompasses Haute Couture, as well as bags, beauty and ready-to-wear for men, women and children.
“Givenchy continues to ignite surprise and intrigue season upon season thanks to a forward-looking new signature”.
Givenchy’s success was partly due to its elegant separates, which the brand is still known for to this day. Exquisite tailoring and dedication to the craft are fundamental at Givenchy in both the past and the present. We see modern-day Givenchy experiment with proportions to create almost grungy, street-inspired styles. Modernity and attitude are brought to the brand, presenting classy and chic looks with a streetwear edge, at the same time preserving the skill and refined nature of classic Givenchy.
Haute Couture remains integral to the Givenchy brand, and Hubert de Givenchy has passed his expertise down to the future generations of artisans. The tradition of the House is continued in their hand sewn pieces, impeccable attention to detail and passion for the art.
There are over 70 Givenchy stores across the world. Their ready-to-wear, accessories and beauty products can be purchased through their online store, as well as through Harrods, Net-a-Porter and Selfridges.
