Shanghai Tang

Shanghai Tang is a luxury fashion house founded by David Tang in 1994. The Hong Kong-based brand began as a high-end tailoring company, later releasing ready-to-wear in 1996 with the aim of creating quintessentially Chinese clothing for the modern woman.

With this, the company was able to expand worldwide throughout the late ‘90’s, and Shanghai Tang now encompasses menswear, womenswear, collections for children, and homeware. The label is owned by Lunar Capital and Yuni Ahn is the current Creative Director.

Throughout clothing and homeware, Shanghai Tang reinterprets traditional Chinese design with a modern edge. The brand has been continually inspired by the Shanghai Bund era- a period in the 1930’s recognised for its vibrant merging of cultures, art and fashion. This fusion is certainly what the brand represents, taking classic Chinese styles and aesthetics and catering them to a modern, global audience. Signature pieces from the brand include Tang jackets, intricate silk scarves and opulent cashmere cardigans. Each piece is luxurious and crafted from the finest materials for a decadent feel. Mandarin collars feature across blouses, shirts and t-shirts, met with handmade frog buttons for a true Chinese finish. Coats, trousers and pyjamas are adorned with beautiful floral embroidery, and metallic stitching can be seen in jacquard dresses and qipaos. The brand provides understated tees, trousers and loungewear, as well as opulent designs inspired by a rich heritage. Outfits are perfectly finished with knot clutch bags and Chinese gemstone jewellery for a high-end appeal.

Shanghai Tang has boutiques located in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Beijing. Their collections can also be accessed online through the brand’s website, with a selection of pieces available via Farfetch too.
