Tiffany & Co.

Named after its founder, Charles Lewis Tiffany, Tiffany and Co. is one of the most prestigious and world-renowned brands in history. In the beginning, Charles opened his store as a ‘stationery and fancy goods emporium’. Having only launched in 1837, by the late 1840’s, the brand was well known for its diamonds after Charles purchased gemstones from European aristocrats to sell in the US. Providing many more firsts to the American jewellery world, Tiffany and Co. implemented the .925 sterling silver standard, and also designed and produced the USA’s first ever stopwatch in 1866. Tiffany and Co. allowed Americans to buy the richest of designs and gemstones in their own country rather than abroad. The 20th century saw Charles’ son, Louis Comfort Tiffany, take over from his father, propelling the company to even more prosperity. Perhaps most famously, Tiffany and Co. made its cinematic debut in the 1961 classic, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn. Today, the iconic blue Tiffany box, as well as what is inside it, remains a treasured and highly sought after luxury.
